Pelican Lake Indian Residential School was located on the shore of Pelican Lake a few miles from Sioux Lookout between 1927 - 1978. 

The Government of Canada was responsible for funding the school, which was managed and operated by the Missionary Society of the Church of England in Canada from 1927 to April 1, 1969. The government assumed full responsibility for operating the School until it closed in 1978.
